Rhinoplasty for Men in Pittsburgh

A man’s appearance is far more appealing when the nose is attractive and balanced with the other facial features. If you have a nose with a drooping or long tip, that is overlarge, has a noticeable hump on the bridge, or other flaw, it can be surgically reshaped.

Dr. Heil, the premier facial plastic surgeon for men in Pittsburgh, can help you have a more attractive look with a custom rhinoplasty. There is no “one size fits all” for the perfect nose; your rhinoplasty must be customized to create the most balanced shape, size, or projection to suit your other features.

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty involves incisions within the nostrils, with no visible scars. This procedure may be appropriate for treating a hump or bump on the bridge of the nose but typically does not allow for enough surgical access to resolve an overlarge, bulbous, or droopy nose tip or other more serious nose shape or size problems.

Open Rhinoplasty

In an open rhinoplasty, a very small incision is placed in the columella, the small strip of skin and cartilage between the nostrils. This allows for a more extensive correction to be made to the nose structure, with other incisions placed as needed for the patient.

Revision Rhinoplasty

It is an unfortunate fact that many men are dissatisfied with the results of a prior nose surgery and come to Dr. Heil to correct the size, shape, or projection of the nose. The fault often lies in the lack of experience in performing the surgery on male patients, with surgeons who are more often working with women.

A man looks more masculine and attractive with a less refined, defined nose; surgical planning will include evaluating your other features, how they work together, and a surgery that creates a balanced, natural look that is distinctly you – and looks fully natural.

Recovery Time After Rhinoplasty

When planning to alter your nose structure, you need to schedule sufficient recovery time. The procedure itself may require several hours. Once you awaken, your nose is bandaged to keep the reshaped nose structure in place. In the early stages of healing it is normal to have swelling and bruising for a week or two; after this diminishes, your new nose shape will be revealed.

While the total effect of your surgery will not be fully visible for up to a year, only you will notice the remaining minor swelling, with others typically just noticing that your face looks more attractive. The results of this surgery, in the end, are often life-changing.

Time to Heal from a Nose Job

Plan on taking about two weeks off work or other normal activities after a rhinoplasty, after which you can go on with your life. You will need to carefully follow the aftercare instructions.

You will be restricted from engaging in vigorous physical activity for a period to avoid the risk of contact that could damage your healing nose. Dr. Heil will see you several times after your nose surgery to ensure your newly reshaped nose is healing as it should.

Breathing Easy: A Deviated Septum

A rhinoplasty may be necessary to correct an inner nose structure problem, such as a deviated septum. Both the inner structure and the outer appearance of the nose can be corrected in a single surgery.

When you can breathe freely it can resolve a host of uncomfortable and unpleasant physical symptoms, including:

  • Excess snoring
  • Breathing is difficult through one side of the nose
  • Nosebleeds
  • Frequent sinus infections
  • Sleep disruption

Facial Balance: Male Rhinoplasty in Pittsburgh

An attractive face has balanced features. A large, crooked, or oddly-shaped nose will naturally attract the eye of others. If you are unhappy with the size, projection, or shape of your nose, talk with our skilled Pittsburgh plastic surgeon who will perform a custom surgery to reshape your nose, so it enhances your other features.
